The essence of micro soccer (small sided games) is
the fewer players mean more opportunity.
Youth soccer at the youngest ages is characterized as one
big pack moving with the ball.
Fewer players means more touches on the ball and therefore
more changes to dribble, shoot, pass and score.
Players get more chances to be successful which means
there’s more chance they will want to continue to play.
While micro soccer may be new to the United States,
it is not new to the rest of the world.
Because of the developmental advantages micro soccer
provides, it is the preferred way to play soccer in many countries
until the age of thirteen. Micro
soccer is a great way to reach the fringe player who is either
afraid of the “pack” or easily bored.
